The Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences in the College of Medicine and Health Sciences at the United Arab Emirates University (UAEU) hosted Italian Professor Vittorio Gallese, Physiology Professor from the University of Parma, recently. He was attending a seminar organized by the nervous system research team from the College of Medicine and the mental science research team from the College of Human and Social Sciences.

Professor Dr. Saif Al Qaydi, Dean of the College of Humanities and Social Sciences gave his thanks to Dr. Vittorio Gallese for presenting a lecture on his innovative discovery of new cerebral cells which can identify internal or inherent feelings in others.

Dr. Al Qaydi stressed that UAEU is keen to host scholars and scientists from around the world and to allow them present their research for the academic benefit of interested parties. This seminar was a joint effort from the two colleges in order to discuss this medical development at UAEU.

Dr. Vittorio Gallese lectured about newly discovered brain cells that detect esoteric and hard feelings which are often hard to detect in patients. This discovery can facilitate the treatment of many mental disorders including schizophrenia and autism, particularly in children, and help in discovering new treatments based on an understanding of underlying human emotions.

Dr. Ossama Osman, Professor of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences in the College of Medicine and Health Sciences at UAEU, added that through this seminar we were able to identify scientific research methods and experiments that tested the activities of these cells in humans. They have different applications in human life such as in art, where they can enrich our taste, as well as in understanding the feelings of others, particularly in the area of personal and family relations.
