The College of Law at the United Arab Emirates University (uaeu) organized a seminar on the Provisions of Federal Law recently. It was held in the theatre of the College of Information Technology on the morning of Tuesday, 3rd March, 2015. The seminar was held in the presence of Dr. Mohammad Hassan, Dean of the College of Law, a delegation from the Dubai Courts and the Court of Cassation in Abu Dhabi, UAEU faculty and a number of legal professionals, in addition to both male and female students from the university.

Dr. Abdullah Al Khatib, Chairman of the Organizing Committee and member of faculty in the College of Law, said in his opening speech that, “experience is one of the tools used in courts, and this is becoming increasingly important due to it being different from other evidence in terms of legal rulings. Experience surpasses all other evidence in certain cases thanks to the importance in UAE legislature given to regulation No. 7 2012.”

Al Khatib added that due to the importance of this regulation the College of Law at UAEU decided to hold a seminar to highlight the provisions of this new federal law and link it to corresponding theories. This seminar benefits from the practical participation of specialists, professors of law, judges, lawyers and other experts.

The seminar was divided into two sessions: the first session was chaired by Professor Dr. Ghazi Orabi from the College of Law advised by Abdel Karim Pharaon, Judge of the Court of Cassation in Abu Dhabi, and Judge Mohammed Mubarak Saboosi, President of the Commercial Court and the Chairman of the Committee of Experts of the Dubai Courts. They discussed the kinds of monitoring of experience, expertise, professional associations and the responsibilities that govern this law.

The second session was chaired by Professor Dr. Ahmed Khalil, Professor in the College of Law at UAEU, with Judge Tareq Ahmed, Cassation Judge in the Dubai Courts and Dr. Osama Badr, Associate Professor of Private Law. They discussed the duties of law experts and the practical problems they face. The seminar ended by recognizing the contributions of the participants.
