The University College at the United Arab Emirates University (UAEU) organized a lecture entitled, “Scientific Research is in Your Hands” recently. The lecture was delivered on the morning of Wednesday 3^rd March, 2015 by Dr. Amjad Al Jawhari, Professor of Library Science and Cultural Attaché from the Embassy of Egypt in Abu Dhabi. It took place in the crescent building theatre at UAEU and was attended by faculty, students and staff.

The lecture was aimed at developing the research capacity of the students by helping them to understand the modern and sophisticated tools that are available to them. Dr. Al Jawahari talked about digital research, digital engines and other Internet based methods of conducting research. He described the process of getting information, prioritizing and organizing a research topic, making a questionnaire and conducting online interviews. He also explained how cost-effective and convenient the Internet is as it saves a lot of time and effort when compared to traditional research methods.

Dr. Al Jawahari concluded his lecture by suggesting that students evaluate information gleaned from the Internet and check its validity. He then answered questions about search engines, their reliability and how to use them effectively.
