The competitors in the Al Ain Jiu-Jitsu Open Championship praised the organizing role of the United Arab Emirates University in hosting the championship for the second time. The competition started on Friday evening with local, Gulf and international participants. This demonstrates the wide appeal and importance of this event.

Dr. Ali Al Kaabi, Deputy Vice Chancellor for Student Affairs and Enrollment at UAEU, said that the university hosting the Al Ain Jiu-Jitsu Open Championship for the second time is part of the university’s role in spreading a sporting culture among young people. This also helps to create a culture of volunteerism through the involvement of students in organizing events and sport tournaments. This allows students to come into contact with inspirational and influential sportsmen.

Dr. Al Kaabi honored the sports federations participating in the championship: they are from the UAE Federation, the GCC Federation, Iraq, the United Kingdom, Brazil.

Professor Ibrahim Mukhtar, Director of Sports (Male), said that a large group of competitors from various countries participating in the event showed the popularity of the competition in terms of the venue, the ability to cater to a variety of different needs and the number of organizational staff and volunteers. These were mostly university students who worked to make the championship a great success.

He added that the tournament included an open weight category and other set weight categories for adults. The championship begins for younger age groups next Friday at the same venue.
