The Sports Activities Unit of the Student Affairs and Enrollment Section organized the 8^th Olympic Sports Tournament on Sunday 24^th of April 2016 2016.  Presiding over the events were Dr. Ali Al Kaabi, Deputy Vice Chancellor for Student Affairs and Enrollment, a number of representatives of governmental authorities and institutions, schools, universities and communities residing in the United Arab Emirates.  The events were within auspices of the “Sehati” Program for 2016 and in line within the UAE University’s mission and its commitment to promote active participation in the community to contribute to realizing the Vision of the State for the year 2021, in creating a healthy community, and in collaboration with the Abu Dhabi Health Authority

Dr. Ali Al Kaabi began by welcoming the participating teams to UAE University campus in Al Ain City. He addressed the participants to strive for high sportsmanship, ideals, and the awareness of the importance of sports in achieving the great goals of the society. Dr. Kaabi said: “In the beginning I give thanks and appreciation to his Excellency, Dr. Ali Rashid Al Noaimi, Vice Chancellor of the University for his continued support and nurturing of student activities. UAE University is in constant pursuit of leadership and excellence within its ranks to service the youth and sport sector in the State by organizing such events in cooperation with public and private institutions that serve the community. This year we have worked on the development of events and programs for student sports activities in accordance with the modern concept of the theory of management, "Kaizen", through a series of continuous developments and improvements of life and student activities to achieve leadership and excellence in serving the student community for our students. "

The tournament began with a series of matches between the various teams in basketball, swimming, tennis, volleyball and football.  The first day witnessed a broad public audience and the Olympic Sports Tournament will continue until the 27^th of this month.

The Olympic Sports Tournament is in its eighth edition and is characterized by the broad participation of government institutions, schools and universities. The Abu Dhabi Education Council has 15 schools participating in addition to 16 government and private institutions. They are all competing in seven various sports within the program of the eighth Olympic Sports Tournament 2016 in UAE University.
