Towards an Innovative Generation:
The College of Information Technology and the Centre for Career Placement and Alumni at the United Arab Emirates University organized an IT Industry Day (alongside the college open day) on Wednesday, February 17th, 2016 in the College of Information Technology. The open day was held as part of the ‘Building an Innovative Generation’ push and involved government ministries, public and private institutions that deal with information technology. Professor Omar El-Gayar, dean of the college, faculty and students were all in attendance.
This event aims to introduce the college’s courses and the career opportunities offered by these companies and institutions, including the scholarships available to UAEU students.
Professor Omar El-Gayar said that, “We are in the Year of Reading which is a fundamental skill in building a knowledge economy and important at university. The College of Information Technology contributes to the development of the country and building a knowledge economy". He also thanked those who contributed to the event.
IT Industry Day introduced new students to the courses offered by the college. There was an exhibition of graduation projects and a display by the companies and institutions involved with information technology. This included the Ministry of the Interior (the General Command of the Abu Dhabi Police); the Masdar Institute; the Dubai Electricity and Water Authority; the Human Resources Department of the Fujairah Government; ADNOC; SAP; the Ministry of Climate Change and the Environment; the Federal Customs Authority; the Abu Dhabi Investment Authority; the Abu Dhabi Investment Council; the Thuraya Satellite Communications Company; the Khor Fakkan Municipality and Abu Dhabi Airports.
