The Emirates Digestive Disease Group and the Student Committee for Health Education in the College of Medicine and Health Sciences at the United Arab Emirates University announced the launch of a joint health awareness campaign about digestive diseases to coincide with World Digestive Health Day, which falls on May 29th every year.
According to Dr. Ali Al Fazari, President of Emirates Digestive Disease Group in the College of Medicine, “May 29th is a day when the world celebrates digestive health”. The World Gastroenterology Organization has choosen a slogan to highlight a certain digestive problem each year: this year’s slogan is “Diet and the Gut”.
He added, “The Emirates Digestive Disease Group believes in the importance of raising health awareness. The Student Committee for Health Education in the College of Medicine has prepared a number of educational materials to increase community awareness of the importance of diet and its direct impact on the safety and health of the digestive system as well as its relationship with digestion”.
The Student Committee has approved 6 topics in order to raise public awareness. These include: Food and Irritable Bowel Syndrome; Food Allergies; Food and Esophageal Reflux Disease; Food and Obesity; Beneficial Bacteria in Food and others. A number of students in the College of Medicine will participate in an exhibition at Hili Mall on Friday, May 27th 2016 to provide an opportunity for the public to raise their awareness platforms. They can interact with students and get useful information.
