The College of Science of the United Arab Emirates University, organized "Happiness in a Book" campaign for the month of November. The event was held on November 17, 2016, on the campus and selected books were distributed among the College’s students. His Excellency Sultan Al-Haji, Vice President of Total Exploration and Production, gifted a book entitled “Abu Dhabi, a Nature Reserve” to the female students of the College. In attendance were Dr. Ahmed Murad, Dean of the College of Science, the College’s professors and female students.
This campaign comes as a continuation of the "Happiness in a Book" campaign launched by the College of Science during the month of October. The goal is to have an event each month. The College, in collaboration with Total UAE; one of the main strategic partners of the College of Science, held the "Happiness in a Book" campaign for the month of November, and the book, “Abu Dhabi, a Nature Reserve” has been chosen and published in cooperation with National Geographic.
Dr. Ahmed Murad stressed that "In response to the directives of His Highness Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan, President of the State, to make 2016 the Year of Reading, the College took the initiative and launched "Happiness in a Book" campaign. It is our contribution in promoting the University’s reading initiatives and making reading a daily habit for students to help them achieve excellence and develop their capacity. This will contribute to the development process of the State. He added, "Reading is a fundamental skill for a new generation of scholars, thinkers, researchers, and innovators who are able to develop themselves and benefit their community, by being armed with distinguished cultural and scientific capabilities".
For his part, His Excellency Sultan Al-Haji, Vice President of Total Exploration and Production, said: "Total Company is proud to be part of the State’s initiative to build a generation of readers and the scientists of the future. Our aim is to develop technology and exchange knowledge in all fields, and through our partnership with the United Arab Emirates University, Total is pleased to dedicate the books entitled ‘Abu Dhabi, a Nature Reserve’ for the students of the United Arab Emirates University".
At the end of the campaign, His Excellency Sultan Al-Haji, Dean of College of Science, distributed copies of the book to the female students who participated in the campaign. They expressed their happiness to participate in it, and thanked the College, the University, and Total Company for giving them the opportunity to read useful books. They are encouraged to read and enjoy what is useful and new and increases their knowledge, and instill in themselves the habit of reading, a love of science and acquisition of books. His Excellency Sultan Al-Haji also dedicated a copy of the book to the University’s library.
