Mon, 6 June 2022
As part of the UAE’s Reading Month 2018 and to participate in the Reading Hour Initiative, launched by the Federal Authority for Government Human Resources (FAHR) in collaboration with the UAE cabinet, the College of Humanities and Social Sciences (CHSS) at the United Arab Emirates University (UAEU) launched its first library, as part of a series of libraries, to be established later across the college’s building. The event was attended by Professor Hassan Al Naboodah, Dean of CHSS and a number of faculty members.
Professor Al Naboodah explained that the UAEU is an incubator of human knowledge and cultures. The university has taken steps to encourage and strengthen the professional reading of UAEU faculty and students through establishing various libraries on different fields in addition to the workshops held by the university’s colleges and departments for faculty and staff to discuss books and organize competitions.
The CHSS libraries and reading circles aim to stimulate reading among faculty to expand their knowledge and skills. They also aim to consolidate the culture of reading and encourage faculty to exchange the knowledge they gain through engaging them in the activities the new libraries organize, looking forward to building an educated knowledge society to achieve the UAE’s strategy of stimulating reading.
The newly established library encompasses a number of classics relevant to the college’s departments including Geography, Political Science, Linguistics, Literature and Sociology in addition to an online library.
