The College of Medicine and Health Sciences at the United Arb Emirates University (UAEU) in collaboration with the Emirates Diabetes Society organized on March 23, 2018 in Al Ain the 23rd Annual Conference on Diabetes Mellitus and Endocrine Disorders. The conference aimed to showcase latest research, treatments and technologies in this field.

Dr. Jumaa Alkaabi, Head of the conference s organizing committee, explained that the spread of obesity, hormone disorders, diabetes and endocrine disorders has provoked researchers and scholars to look for permanent treatments and practices to eliminate these diseases and educate the society on the their hazards. The conference topics included the latest updates on diabetes, thyroid and pituitary gland diseases, blood fat disorders, hormones disorder in children, vitamin D deficiency, osteoporosis, obesity, diabetes and pregnancy diabetes and the side effects of their medications.

A workshop held during the conference targeting healthcare providers, health educators and nutritionists was about educating patients on how to use insulin injections. In addition, a number of research presented during the conference showcased up-to-date sciences regarding medications used to alleviate symptoms caused by diabetes for patients with heart diseases and endocrine disorders, and the effects of diabetes on hormones. Alongside the conference, a student exhibition was organized where brochures were distributed to educate the society on how to detect diabetes.

A number of international drug companies sponsored the conference including Novartis International AG, Sanofi S.A., AstraZeneca, Abbott and Boehringer Ingelheim. The conference was held in collaboration with Johns Hopkins University and Hospital, Tawam Hospital and Imperial College London Diabetes Center, Abu Dhabi.
