In cooperation with the State Key Laboratory Of Hydrology-Water Resources and Hydraulic Engineering, Nanjing Province, China
The United Arab Emirates University, in collaboration with the State Key Laboratory of Hydrology-Water Resources and Hydraulic Engineering at Hohai University, China organized the World Water Day event at the university's Campus in the Nanjing Province, China.
Prof. Ahmed Murad, Dean of the College of Science and Professor of Geology at UAEU, presented a lecture under the theme "Overcoming drought through the sustainability of water resources in the UAE", explaining the UAE's strategy and plans to overcome drought through rational management of water resources , variety in the usage of different water sources, such as groundwater; desalinated water and recycled water with the goal of reducing the pressure on groundwater, which is considered to be limited traditional water; and rely on desalinated water and wastewater as important alternatives at the present time. Prof. Murad said that a team from the UAEU has been using stationary and radioactive isotopes as tools to understand the renewal of groundwater at the UAE.
A PhD student at Hohai University in China also presented a shared research with researchers from Hohai University and the UAEU to determine groundwater renew using mathematical modelling and carbon 14.
It is noted that this is the second session of such an event that discussed a number of issues related to water and ways of sustainability, and a delegation from the UAEU visited the scientific laboratories and experiments based on laboratory of hydrologic, water resources and engineering, as well as discussing ways of cooperation between the University and the College of Astronomy and Space science At Nanjing University of China in the field of student exchange , and exchange of board members and research projects .
