The Department of Special Education at the College of Education at the United Arab Emirates University organized the International White Cane Day event, in the presence of a number of leaders and successful models from the people of determination in the country, parents, faculty members and students.
Dr. Awsha Al Muhairi - Assistant Dean of the College of Education for Student Affairs - said in a speech delivered on behalf of Dr. Najwa Al Hosani - Acting Dean of the College of Education – “the aim of celebrating this day is to recognize the people of determination accomplishments in their special day. She added, "The College of Education pays great attention to people of determination, because they are an essential partner for success, and we hope that we will support and help them in their journey and progress."
The event included a panel discussion to review the experiences and challenges of people of determination, promoting their determination to continue their studies and to be active members of society and expressing their pride in continuing their education. Prof. Abdullah Al-Hamami - a specialist in visual impairment at the Ministry of Education made a presentation of the mobility and movement skills that must be taught to a blind child from a young age so that he can depend on himself in mobility and movement. He said, "We should accept and adapt to our disabilities, so society should not be embarrassed to deal with us. Trust the ability of the blind as he has the capabilities and abilities that make him a source of pride for everyone."
