A team from the IT College at the UAEU innovates the “Smart Solar PV Panels” to enhance renewable energy technology

A student team from the College of Information Technology at the UAEU developed “Smart Solar PV Panels,” to achieve sustainability and develop renewable energy technology, using solar energy, to find an innovative solution for clean energy. This project is part of the university’s efforts to enhance its contributions to clean energy.
Dr. Fady Alnajjar - Associate Professor in the Department of Computer Science and
Software Engineering, said, “The project is inspired by the intelligence of nature
in choosing the most appropriate genes to deal with various environmental factors,
and to adapt to any changes. In this project, we designed a smart system to distribute
solar panels and locate its direction in large areas such as the desert. The project
depends on increasing the efficiency of solar energy by using gene selection algorithms
to distribute solar panels, which can effectively increase energy production from
the solar facility, under different environmental conditions.”
He added, “The use of genetic algorithms to address the problem of the direction of
solar panels will pave the way for determining the ideal angle for the solar panels,
which increases the maximum possible sunlight. It also affects the overall panels
design and direction. This also reduces effectively heat concentration and dust accumulation
on panels by controlling wind flow that enhance overall system efficiency and longevity.
This integration of bio-inspired optimization, practical and innovative features represents
a major advance in solar technology.
The student, Maryam Khaled Mohammad Al Kuwaiti indicated that the solar PV panel project
innovative design is an integrated automatic control, which achieves efficiency and
usability that positively affect society and environment. The team consists of: Shamma
Al Neyadi, Nasser Al Saadi and Ahmed Al Shamsi.
