Invention Description

Working in the oil and gas industry can be a dangerous job as hydrogen sulfide, a poisonous and highly corrosive gas, is a naturally occurring component of crude oil and natural gas. To safeguard workers against possible exposure, the industry relies on detection devices that are not only expensive, but have short life spans and can sometimes produce inaccurate results.
Researchers at UAEU are developing a more accurate device that detects the existence of this poisonous gas “in-stream” by measuring sulfide ion concentration through liquid absorption. Since the reaction of hydrogen sulfide results in a change of temperature, it can be measured. A temperature reading can accurately indicate the amount of sulfide present in the stream. The result: a simple, practical device that improves the detection accuracy while eliminating the need for expensive instruments.

Distinctive Elements
  • A simpler, low cost devise for the detection of Hydrogen Sulfide

  •  Longer life and improved reading accuracy

Potential Applications
  • Oil & Gas industry safety

  • Other energy industry safety
