About the College
Overview
The College of Information Technology (CIT) is the youngest college at United Arab Emirates University (UAEU). It was established in 2001 and has earned a reputation for excellence in research, teaching and community service. The CIT employs an outstanding team of faculty members who are Doctoral degree holders and are internationally recognized for their contribution to research, innovation and education. In addition, a team of Master’s degree qualified staff who are recognized for their industrial and technical experience are responsible for handling the hand-on education portion of the offered programs utilizing the state-of-the-art laboratories and classrooms hosted by the CIT. To support students and faculty, a team of dedicated administrative staff is employed. This team makes it possible for students and faculty to have a wonderful experience at CIT.
The CIT is a world-class, student-centered place that develops and delivers Computing programs which hold international accreditation and are recognized globally for their rigorous academic standards and relevance to contemporary professional practices. All offered undergraduate and graduate programs at the CIT are accredited by the Commission for Academic Accreditation (CAA) of the UAE Ministry of Education. The Bachelor of Science Programs in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Information Security and Information Technology are accredited by ABET (Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology).
CIT is committed to producing graduates with technical proficiency, theoretical and experiential knowledge required in computing disciplines such as: Computer Science, Artificial Intelligence, Data Science, Computer Engineering, Information and Cybersecurity and Information Technology.
Graduates of the CIT are employed in government and industry positions that serve the needs of the nation and contribute to advances in Computing and related fields in the UAE and wider region. CIT students are involved in undergraduate research and have presented at international conferences and published articles in major research journals. Many choose to pursue their graduate studies and obtain Master or Doctoral degrees.

Accreditation
All undergraduate and graduate programs offered by the College of Information Technology (CIT) are accredited by the Commission for Academic Accreditation (CAA) of UAE Ministry of Education.
The BSc in Information Technology, the BSc in Computer Science and the BSc in Information Security programs in the CIT at the United Arab Emirates University is accredited by the Computing Accreditation Commission of ABET. In addition, the BSc in Computer Engineering program is accredited by the Engineering Accreditation Commission of ABET.
ABET accreditation provides assurance that a program meets the quality standards of the profession for which that program prepares graduates.
About CAA
The Commission for Academic Accreditation (CAA) is the UAE Federal Government Quality Assurance Agency for Higher Education. Working collaboratively with relevant international and local authorities in the Emirates, the CAA has a key leadership role in securing and developing the quality of higher education in the UAE. As a matter of the highest priority, it sets out to safeguard academic standards, and to assure and enhance the quality of learning opportunities provided for students in UAE’s higher education institutions (HEIs). It undertakes licensure of HEIs in the UAE and accreditation of their award-bearing academic programs. In order to be entered in the National Register and receive Federal Recognition any HEIs offering post-secondary education in the UAE must receive institutional licensure and accreditation of their degree, diploma and certificate programs that are of at least one-year study duration. CAA accreditation incorporates recognition of Higher Diploma (Advanced Diploma) Bachelor Degree, Postgraduate Diploma and Certificate, Master Degree and Doctorate Degree. These Degree ranges from level 6-8 as per National Qualifications Framework (QFEmirates) of UAE
About ABET
ABET is a nonprofit, non-governmental agency that accredits programs in applied and natural science, computing, engineering and engineering technology. ABET accreditation provides assurance that a college or university program meets the quality standards of the profession for which that program prepares graduates. ABET accredit programs, not institutions and provides specialized accreditation for post-secondary programs within degree-granting institutions already recognized by national or regional institutional accreditation agencies or national education authorities worldwide. ABET accreditation is voluntary, and to date, 4,773 programs at 930 colleges and universities in 42 countries have received ABET accreditation. Over 200,000 students graduate from ABET-accredited programs each year, and millions of graduates have received degrees from ABET-accredited programs since 1932.
Facilities
The CIT is housed in the excellent College of Information Technology building, and has embarked on an ambitious project to deliver laboratory education of an unprecedented breadth and depth. The CIT boasts some of the most up-to-date laboratories in the world. There are twenty specialized laboratories for Robotics and Artificial Intelligence, Data Science, Information Security and Privacy, and Drones. We also have laboratories specializing in the Internet of Things (IoT), Communication Networks, Grid and Cloud Computing, Digital Hardware and Circuit Design, VLSI, and Immersive Learning.
Community Service
The College of Information Technology (CIT) has established three recurrent innovative activities that contribute to the development of the local community. These include:
IT Marathon is an annual event run by CIT to nurture and further develop the youth’s enthusiasm for information technology. Over 400 school pupils representing more than 70 schools nationwide in the UAE have been regularly taking part in the IT Marathon’s annual competition since 2008. The event also includes interaction with school teachers to bridge the gap between the education system and to share knowledge about contemporary IT topics.
CIT has also been organizing the annual international conference on Innovations in Information Technology since 2004. This conference brings together eminent research scientists and prominent professionals from the IT industry to discuss with the wider local community some of the contemporary developments which are at the forefront of information technology, and their applications to better serve the local economy and society.
The Cisco Academy at CIT offers students an opportunity to prepare for the CCNA industrial examination by offering the CCNA exploration and discovery course modules. Interested students from UAEU can take the course free of charge to strengthen their career prospects. These courses can also be offered to members of the larger community to train and certify the networking workforce in various organizations.
