Overview
Welcome to the Pathology Department, where we are dedicated to advancing the understanding,
diagnosis, and improving treatment of diseases through comprehensive research, education,
and clinical practice. Our department provides students with a fundamental understanding
of the underlying mechanisms of diseases and the essential skills needed for accurate
diagnosis and effective patient care. Our esteemed faculty members are leaders in
their respective fields, conducting groundbreaking research in a wide range of areas,
including anatomical pathology, renal pathology, pediatric pathology and cytopathology.
Through interdisciplinary collaboration and innovative approaches, we strive to translate
scientific discoveries into improved diagnostic tools and therapeutic interventions,
ultimately improving patient outcomes and advancing healthcare. Whether you are a
student, researcher, clinician, or member of the community, we invite you to join
us in our mission to unravel the mysteries of disease and pave the way for a healthier
future.
Teaching
The Department of Pathology plays a crucial role in all phases through the 6-year
Doctor of Medicine (MD) program.
Pre-Medical Course (Year 1 and Year 2): An introduction to the study of human diseases
(general and molecular pathology; principles of pathology, and pathogenesis of disease)
Pre-Clinical Course (Year 3 and Year 4): Anatomic and clinical pathology of different
organs affected by diseases (congenital, inflammatory, traumatic, vascular, degenerative,
and neoplastic). Pathophysiology, clinical correlations and molecular basis of diseases.
Clinical Course (Year 5 and Year 6): Pathophysiological and molecular aspects of clinical
medicine, presented in multidisciplinary seminars.
The Department of Pathology is involved in PhD program.
Advanced General Pathology Course: Advanced teaching of mechanisms of disease on histologic,
cellular and molecular levels.

currently is involved include:
- Cancer Biology and Oncology: Investigating the underlying molecular mechanisms of cancer development, progression,
and treatment resistance, with a focus on identifying novel therapeutic targets and
strategies.
- Molecular Pathology and Precision Medicine: Utilizing genomic, transcriptomic, and proteomic approaches to understand disease
mechanisms at the molecular level and develop personalized diagnostic and therapeutic
interventions.
- Cardiovascular Pathology: Investigating the molecular and cellular mechanisms of heart diseases, including acute
myocardial infarction, ischemia reperfusion injury and chronic cardiac injury.
- Renal Pathology: Investigating the molecular and cellular mechanisms of kidney diseases, including
acute and chronic kidney injury, glomerular diseases, and renal tumors, to develop
personalized treatment strategies.
- Neuropathology: Understanding the pathological mechanisms underlying brain disorders with a focus
on developing diagnostic biomarkers and targeted therapies.
- Immunopathology and Immunotherapy: Studying the immune system's role in disease pathogenesis, including autoimmune diseases,
infectious diseases, and cancer, and developing immunotherapeutic approaches for disease
treatment.
