Research
Overview
The College of Engineering (COE) faculty members are dedicated to pursuing both basic and applied research that will meet the needs of the UAE and the world at large. Major focus areas of research within the College are strongly tied to the country’s strategic goals in terms of sustainable development for communities, energy, water, and the environment.
A large number of research grants are being undertaken by the College faculty and students, resulting in numerous publications, conference participation and patents during each academic year. Research projects include seed and interdisciplinary projects funded by College, University Grants funded through a competitive process, and externally funded research projects funded by different government and industries such as the Emirates Foundation, NRF “University-Industry Collaboration” grants (U-IRCA), Hamdan Award in Medicine, ADNOC, JCCP, and others. The College of Engineering maintains strong links with industry and provides research and consultancy services to meet their needs.
Faculty members have formed international collaborations through international funding agencies such as the British Council Collaborative Research Projects, PMI 2, or the joint research projects like the UAEU – SQU Joint Research Projects, or through joint supervision of PhD students with faculty members at other universities, e.g. Imperial College, University of Marseille, Florida State, U. North Carolina Greensboro, and others. Faculty members also engage in summer research collaboration visits with various universities and summer internships such as the JCCP/JPI research projects/internships.
Research outcomes include research reports to sponsors, journal and international conference papers, and other outcomes such as books and book chapters, patents and patent applications, and participation in scientific conferences.
Opportunities
The College of Engineering is dedicated to continuous engagement of its faculty members and students (graduate and undergraduate) in research and scholarly activities within their field of specialization. Research funding is available to COE researchers through several opportunities from the university, the college and local/international industries and government agencies.
