The Developmental Instruction Unit (DIU) is a one-year Program which helps students transition from high school to university by building up their communication skills (Academic Arabic and English) and mathematics proficiency (Algebra, College Algebra and Trigonometry) to levels required by the UAEU colleges.
Depending on students’ placement scores, students can spend up to one year in the Program (4 Quarters and 2 summer schools) preparing to meet the University admission requirements. Courses in the DIU are taught in Quarters and not in Semesters.
Once students enter their Colleges, they will be required to take an English Academic Writing course. This course is taught by teachers from the English for Academic Purposes Unit which is also attached to the Developmental Instruction Unit.
The Developmental Instruction Unit has well qualified instructors who effectively employ mobile learning technologies to enhance learning both within and outside the classroom.
The Developmental Instruction Unit is continuously evolving to better align itself with the changing needs of its primary stakeholders: our students of today and tomorrow, the UAE primary and secondary education systems, the various University colleges, our community and our nation.
