The College of Law (COL) considers scientific research as an integral and important
component of the College. Research at the College of Law assists legislators, legal
consular, government entities, judiciary departments in several fields of law and
jurisprudence, making the College one of the top institutions in the region in terms
of research and publishing books and articles.
The College of Law has appointed an Assistant Dean for Research and Graduate Studies
in order to improve and encourage research within UAEU, the UAE community and the
region. The research department is involved in organizing the annual law conference,
workshops, lectures and symposiums to encourage faculty members to write, participate
and publish articles. Moreover, the faculty members within the COL in collaboration
with several government agencies, publish books and articles in local and international
journals and present papers at international conferences.
The scope of the COL research is broad, encompassing all areas of contemporary laws
and legislation such as cybercrimes and securities and other key disciplines. The
College comprises 3 departments: Public Law, Private Law and Sharia and Islamic Studies
Department. Faculty of each department are involved in specific research related to
their field of expertise that meet the needs of the community.
Capabilities
The College of Law has a unit dedicated to research which is chaired by the Assistant
Dean for Research Affairs and Graduate Studies. The College's leading experts conduct
research in almost all areas of law. Their research areas of interest meet society’s
needs at large, and keep updated with legal and legislative developments at both national
and international levels. The College offers continuous opportunities for its faculty
to take part and produce valuable research papers in international conferences and
workshops.
The College of Law also holds an annual international conference along with three
major symposiums covering several aspects of research which provides an opportunity
for students and faculty members to keep updated with research approaches worldwide.

Opportunities
The College of Law encourages its faculty members, graduate and undergraduate students
to conduct scientific research and participate in scholarly activities. Support is
provided internally through grant research funding competitions, international conference travel funding
at the College level and UAEU grants. The COL also has research and scholarly collaborations with different governmental
organization throughout the UAE.
The College holds an annual conference and several symposiums and workshops in order to facilitate several means for faculty
and students to participate in legal and scientific research.

UAEU Journal of Law
The JUAEU Journal of Law is a scientific journal that is regularly published by the
College of Law. The first issue of the Journal was published in May 1987 which corresponds
to the tenth anniversary of the establishment of the College of Sharia and Law. The
legal journal was published on an annual basis for the Issues No.1 through No.13.
Then, it was published twice per year, Issues no.14 through No.21. The Issues, No.22
through No.24, were published every three months and more recently, the Issues No.25
up until now (Issue No. 56, January 2014) were published on a quarterly basis on the
following months: January, April; July and October.
The College of Law (COL) maintains strong relationships with the UAE legal industry
and provides legal services and consultancies to several public departments in the
UAE government upon their request. Those services and consultations cover many areas
related to the Ministries of Energy, Justice, Foreign Affairs, and Court Departments.
The faculty members also participate in academic partnerships with several institutes
within the UAE; providing legal and academic consultancies.
Through its Research and Graduate Studies Dept., the COL provides research solutions
to several organizations across the UAE, including the Ministry of Justice, the Ministry
of Presidency Affairs, Marriage Fund, General Women’s Union, the Institute for Training
and Judicial Studies in Abu Dhabi and Sharjah, Emirates Center for Research and Strategic
Studies, Civil Aviation Authority, among many other organizations.
Furthermore, the College of Law offers lectures on legal issues of concern to the
UAE legal community aimed at providing people within the industry with specialized
legal knowledge. In the same context, the college designs and offers specialized symposiums
and workshops which provide specialized knowledge to certain sectors in the community.
