BIOGRAPHY
Dr. Amr Sweedan is a Professor of Structural Engineering and Director of the Academic Affairs Unit in the Provost Office. He served as Advisor to the Vice Chancellor and Provost of UAEU from September 2015 till August 2017. Dr. Sweedan is the former Chairman of the Civil Engineering Department from September 2013 till August 2015. He is a registered Professional Engineer (P.Eng.), Ontario, Canada. Before joining UAE University in 2005, Dr. Sweedan held the position of a Senior Engineer at the head office of RWDI, Consulting Engineers and Scientists, Canada.
Prof. Sweedan earned his Ph.D. in Structural Dynamics from the University of Western Ontario, Canada in 2003. He received his M.Sc. and B.Sc. degrees in Structural Engineering from Ain Shams University, Egypt in 1998 and 1992, respectively.
Prof. Sweedan is a member of several professional associations including the Association of Professional Engineers of Ontario (PEO), the American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE) and the Canadian Society of Civil Engineering (CSCE). His areas of research interest include: Strengthening of Steel Structures using FRP Composites; Modeling and Testing of Solid and Cellular Steel Elements; Evaluation of Structural Response to Seismic and Wind Loading; and Behavior of Shell Structures and Storage Tanks.
