National Space Science and Technology Center Announces the Development of “SEO” Satellite Mission to Support Sustainability and National Capacity Building
July 17, 2026The National Space Science and Technology Center (NSSTC) at the United Arab Emirates University has announced the development of the “SEO” satellite mission, as the project reaches advanced stages of development, as part of the Center’s continued commitment to developing national space missions in collaboration with the UAE Space Agency. The mission contributes to strengthening national capabilities in the space sector through scientific and technical collaboration with international partners from the People's Republic of China, contributing to the development of Emirati talent and strengthening national expertise in space science and engineering. The mission also supports sustainable development goals through the utilization of space technologies in advancing innovation and development.
The “SEO” mission represents NSSTC’s model of investment in national capacity building and reinforces the UAE’s position in developing advanced space technologies. Through this mission, the Center continues its efforts to empower Emirati talent by engaging engineers, researchers, and students in various stages of satellite development and operations within an integrated ecosystem that includes ground station facilities, assembly, integration, and testing (AIT) capabilities. The project also provides national talents with advanced hands-on experience, contributing to the preparation of a specialized generation capable of supporting the growth of the national space sector and strengthening knowledge and innovation-based ecosystem.
The “SEO” mission also aims to develop advanced space technologies and represents an ambitious step toward utilizing space technologies to support sustainability and future development. The mission seeks to provide data and insights that contribute to environmental protection, natural resource management, and enhanced planning and decision-making efficiency. Furthermore, it highlights the importance of employing advanced space technologies to support sustainability and future development goals, creating a long-term positive impact on society and the environment through applications in climate action, ecosystem protection, innovation, and education.
His Excellency Eng. Salem Butti Salem Al Qubaisi, Director General of the UAE Space Agency, stated: “The ‘SEO’ mission comes within the UAE’s strategy to expand national space projects, develop advanced space infrastructure, and strengthen international partnerships, further reinforcing the country’s position in the global space sector. The mission reflects the UAE’s commitment to developing advanced space technologies while preparing a new generation of Emirati researchers and engineers capable of leading the future of the space sector and supporting innovation and sustainable development.”
