Credit-Bearing Micro-Credential in Climate Change and Environmental Mapping
The credit-bearing micro-credential in Climate Change and Environmental Mapping (CBMC-CCEM) provides students with a strong foundation in climate science and practical skills in geospatial data analysis and visualization. It is designed to complement students’ major fields of study by equipping them with the skills to integrate climate science, environmental analysis, and sustainable approaches to address climate change challenges and support the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals. The CBMC-CCEM is open to all undergraduate students, as well as holders of a higher education degree.
Admission Requirements
- Existing Undergraduate Students:
- UAEU students must have successfully completed one of the courses under General Education Theme 5: Sustainability, which currently includes: GESU 121 – Sustainability; GEBS 220 - Sustainability, Social Responsibility and Business Ethics; VMED 116 - Principles of Sustainable Animal Husbandry; CIVL 290 - Sustainable Engineering Principles; MEED 109 - Sustainability for Medicine.
- Students from outside UAEU should meet equivalent requirements, which will be evaluated on a case-by-case basis.
- Holders of a higher education degree:
- Students should have completed a higher education degree.
Targeted Students
The CBMC-CCEM targets undergraduate students enrolled in any undergraduate program at UAEU. Students from outside UAEU enrolled in a higher education institute are also eligible to apply for this CBMC. Additionally, it is open for professionals holding a higher education degree.
Program Objectives
- Provide students with foundational knowledge of climate change and sustainability.
- Prepare students to apply sustainable approaches to climate change mitigation and adaptation in interdisciplinary and real-world contexts.
Program Learning Outcomes
Upon successful completion of this program, students will be able to:
- Describe the scientific principles underlying climate change and its drivers.
- Apply geospatial tools and environmental data analysis techniques to interpret and visualize climate-related data.
- Evaluate sustainable approaches for climate change mitigation and adaptation.
