Credit-Bearing Micro-Credential in Renewable Energy Technologies
The undergraduate Credit-Bearing Micro-Credential (CBMC) program in Renewable Energy Technologies provides specialized, advanced-level training in the field without requiring students to commit to a full degree program. It is designed to equip learners with a comprehensive foundation in renewable energy, energy storage, hydrogen production, and low-carbon systems. Participants will develop a robust skill set encompassing applied energy physics, renewable energy technologies, electrochemical storage, hydrogen systems, energy materials, and sustainability-oriented energy analysis. The program thereby prepares students for research, innovation, and professional practice in renewable energy and related technological sectors. This CBMC program is open to students enrolled in STEM disciplines. The credit hours earned through this program are awarded in addition to the standard credit requirements for graduation from an undergraduate bachelor’s degree program. The 9 credit hours earned through this program will not be double-counted toward the credit requirements of the undergraduate degree. The CBMC program is a stand-alone, non-stackable credential and cannot be combined with other academic credentials for credit toward a degree.
Admission Requirements
The CBMC in Renewable Energy Technologies is open to undergraduate students currently pursuing a bachelor’s degree at the university, as well as professionals working in industry. Undergraduate students may be admitted to the program if they have a minimum GPA of 2.5 at the time of application and obtain approval from their Department and Physics Department.
Applicants working in industry must meet the following admission requirements:
- A bachelor’s degree in science, engineering, or a related discipline from an accredited institution recognized by the UAE Ministry of Education, with a minimum cumulative GPA of 2.5 on a 4.0 scale or its equivalent.
- A minimum IELTS Academic score of 5.5, or an equivalent qualification, obtained within two years prior to the application date.
Targeted Students
The CBMC is available to students enrolled in STEM disciplines, including physics, mathematics, chemistry, engineering, or related fields. It is intended for undergraduate students seeking to strengthen their knowledge and competencies in renewable energy technologies, whether to support career development or to prepare for advanced graduate study. The program is also suitable for early-career professionals who wish to improve or reskill in response to the evolving demands of the UAE’s industrial and technology sectors.
Program Objectives
- Provide students with a strong interdisciplinary foundation in renewable energy technologies and energy storage systems.
- Develop students’ ability to analyze, design, and evaluate renewable energy technologies for real-world applications.
- Enhance students’ awareness of environmental sustainability, energy policy, and the societal impacts of energy transitions.
Program Learning Outcomes
Upon successful completion of this program, students will be able to:
- Explain the fundamental principles of renewable energy systems, energy conversion, and energy storage technologies.
- Apply the principles of applied energy physics and energy materials to analyze and develop renewable energy solutions.
- Evaluate the performance, efficiency, and environmental impact of renewable energy systems.
- Communicate technical concepts and findings effectively in written and oral forms.
