Credit-Bearing Micro-Credential in Sustainable Resource Management in the Built Environment
The Credit-Bearing Micro-Credential (CBMC) in Sustainable Resource Management and AI Applications in the Built Environment is designed to develop essential competencies in environmental sustainability, resource efficiency, performance-based design, and AI-supported analytical and visualization approaches. The program equips learners with the knowledge and AI-supported analytical skills required to assess environmental impacts across the life cycle of buildings and infrastructure, and to formulate effective strategies for resource-efficient design strategies and operational practices, with particular emphasis on water management in hot-arid environments.
Learners will develop a solid foundation in life cycle assessment (LCA), environmental performance evaluation, and sustainable landscape and water management practices. The program emphasizes analytical thinking, AI-assisted decision-making, sustainability-oriented design approaches, and evidence-based decision-making to address complex environmental challenges in the built environment.
This micro-credential is intended for engineering students and professionals seeking to strengthen their expertise in sustainability assessment and resource management, particularly in arid and water-scarce regions.
Admission
- UAEU undergraduate students who have successfully completed at least one year of study with a minimum GPA of “2.5” and satisfy the prerequisite requirements of the constituent courses.
- Non-degree learners and professionals holding a bachelor’s degree in engineering, Architecture, Construction, or a related discipline who wish to undertake the CBMC for continuing professional upskilling and development.
- All applicants must satisfy the prerequisite requirements of the constituent courses and the English language requirements in accordance with UAEU regulations.
- Equivalent academic background or relevant professional experience may be accepted.
Targeted Students
- Undergraduate students in Architectural Engineering
- Undergraduate students from related Engineering disciplines.
- Non-degree learners seeking undergraduate-level professional development.
- Engineering and construction professionals seeking to enhance competencies in sustainable resource management and AI-supported environmental assessment.
Program Objectives
- Contribute to sustainable development practices in the built environment by integrating environmental considerations into design, planning, and project decision-making.
- Support resource-efficient and environmentally responsible solutions, particularly in water-scarce and arid contexts, within professional engineering and design settings.
- Apply interdisciplinary knowledge of sustainability, AI-supported environmental systems, and built environment practices to address real-world challenges.
- Engage in continuous professional development and adapt to evolving sustainability standards, AI technologies, and industry requirements.
Program Learning Outcomes
Upon successful completion of this program, students will be able to:
- Apply life cycle assessment methods to evaluate the environmental impacts of built environment systems.
- Analyse resource use and efficiency, particularly water systems, in buildings and landscapes.
- Evaluate design alternatives using environmental performance assessment, sustainability criteria, and appropriate analytical tools.
- Develop sustainable solutions integrating life cycle thinking, resource management strategies, and AI-supported design exploration where appropriate.
- Communicate sustainability analyses and design proposals effectively in professional formats.
