BIOGRAPHY
My research interests broadly focus on two areas: technological innovation and sustainability, and international migration and globalization. I am interested in the intersection between innovation, economic development, and sustainability. I published research that examines the attitudes of UAE citizens and residents toward alternative transport technologies such as electric vehicles. I am also interested in the cross-border movement of people in search of employment opportunities amidst an increasingly globalized economy. I published research that examines the alienation of migrant workers in the Canadian tobacco industry.
My teaching focuses on engaging students in learning strategies that enable them to apply knowledge and skills to real-life issues. In Canada, I was a sessional lecturer at York University, University of Toronto, and Wilfrid Laurier University, and a postdoctoral fellow at Lakehead University. In addition, I was involved in York University’s Borderless Higher Education for Refugees project in Dadaab, Kenya. I published research on web-based technology and distance learning in Dadaab, Kenya, and transnational higher education in the Gulf Cooperation Council countries.
I am a member of the American Association of Geographers and a manuscript reviewer for Antipode, Geoforum, and Urban Studies.
