BIOGRAPHY
Gulfaraz Khan is Professor of Viral Pathology in the Department of Microbiology & Immunology. He did his undergraduate and postgraduate training in London, followed by postdoctoral training at Tufts University School of Medicine and University of Glasgow. He held faculty positions in universities in UK before moving to his current post in UAE. He has extensive experience in research, teaching and training postgraduate students. He has FRCPath in Virology.
Dr Khan’s primary research interests are in viral pathology and infectious diseases. His secondary interests are in emerging viral infections and public health. His publication statistics: 125 papers in high impact journals, 1 book, 10 book chapters, H-index: 57, i-10-index: 99, citations: >60,000.
Dr Khan has received numerous awards for his teaching and research, including the College and University Awards for Excellence in Scholarship. He was a nominee for the UAE Prime Minister’s Medal for Scientific Excellence, and is an elected member of the UAE Mohammad bin Rashid Academy of Scientists. He serves on the editorial board of several international journals.
In 2020, he was appointed to the MENA Regional Advisory Panel for US NIH-NIAID. He has been included in the Stanford list of top 2% scientists for the last 3 consecutive years.
