The Office of Associate Provost for Research is committed to improving UAEU’s status as the leading research-intensive university in the UAE. As well as fostering links with external funding bodies, the APR office currently coordinates two major, internally-funded, university-wide grant competitions. These are run in cooperation with Sultan Qaboos University in Oman.
UAEU has established partnerships with institutions, organizations and companies in the public as well as the private sector in the UAE. This is done to further research in fields of vital concern to UAE society. Cooperative projects with government and other organizations are related to oil and gas, water, health care, agricultural productivity, environmental protection, traffic safety, rehabilitation of concrete structures and many other important issues.
An active research network has been established with key international organizations in countries such as Japan, the USA, the UK, Australia, France, Germany, Korea, Singapore, Sudan and Oman. In addition, there are also partnerships with other leading universities and research centers in the GCC Region and the wider world.

UAEU is pleased to announce a new cycle of the SURE Plus program in Summer 2020. The purpose of the SURE program is to promote and support the engagement of undergraduate students in research, thus providing students with exposure to, and training in, conducting research while working in teams with other undergraduate and graduate students, under the supervision of qualified faculty. UAEU is pleased to announce a new round of research funding opportunities through the UPAR program. This program supports cutting-edge research from UAEU faculty. There are two types of application both of different durations. Further details can be found here.
UAEU is pleased to announce a new round of competitive research funding opportunities to support cutting-edge joint proposals from UAEU faculty in conjunction with faculty from top-ranked international research universities and institutions. The duration of the project is flexible and the budget will be equally shared between the two institutions. In other words, UAEU will fund the UAEU researchers to carry out their part of the project and similarly expect the other institution to fund work carried out under its jurisdiction. 2-5 PIs – Unlimited, Four year grants:
Can recruit up to 5 supported Ph.D. students (funded through Graduate Studies, effective 2020), Can also hire up to 3 post-doctoral scholars, paid off this grant. Must target major international impact .Must first be approved by AP Research, which will require at least one meeting here.
These grants provide funds to support a post-doctoral scholar that can be added to a previously- funded 4 years grant, or a grant that is being applied for in the current round here.
UAE University is allocating an annual fund for an initial, renewable, duration of 3-years to support joint-research projects with other members of the AUA and with a specific focus on areas of strategic importance to UAE. A portion of this fund may also be allocated to support joint-research in basic science areas that would contribute to the advancement of knowledge. Further details can be found here.
