Workshop Description
In recent years, achieving excellence in publishing research has become a strategic priority for many universities and higher education institutions around the world. While this is a legitimate strategic goal, more often than not publishing has been portrayed to mean only publishing a data-driven full-length article (FLA) in a top-tier research-oriented journal (ROJ). In this workshop, I argue that forcing novice researchers to target ROJs prematurely is counterproductive and might lead to undesirable consequences like publishing in predatory journals, or frustration (which will likely result in giving up on academic publishing altogether), both of which will defeat the intended end of achieving excellence in publishing research. To address this issue, I illustrate a range of publishing opportunities more suited and available to novice researchers in their endeavor towards ultimately publishing research-oriented FLAs in ROJs.
