Biography of Dr. Suvojit Ghosh
Dr. Suvojit Ghosh is the Co-founder and Managing Director of the Computing Infrastructure Research Centre (CIRC) in the Faculty of Engineering at McMaster University. He is well recognized for developing CIRC’s pioneering model for industry-University collaborations that has won him many accolades including the McMaster President’s Award, the highest honour by the University. This model, labeled Innovation-as-a-Service (IaaS), is fast paced and professionally managed R&D service to help companies develop new products, or solve critical problems. Dr Ghosh’s track record in facilitating University-Industry collaborations is quite diverse in their industry verticals; they span companies in information technology, telecommunications, industrial maintenance, life sciences, materials science, and aerospace. As a researcher, Dr Ghosh has hands-on experience in a wide variety of fields, spanning Mechanical Engineering, Materials Science, Chemistry, Life Sciences, and Applied Physics. On the commercial front, Dr Ghosh founded a technology startup, NanoSpin Incorporated, during his PhD studies at Virginia Tech; he served as the CEO of NanoSpin from 2013 until the dissolution of the company in 2016. This won him the prestigious VT KnowledgeWorks Tech Transfer Challenge, winning valued over $100K. Dr. Ghosh has an impressive track record in fundraising for commercialization of products based on advanced technologies, with over $10 M raised from both private and public sources. Dr. Ghosh has a PhD in Engineering Mechanics (2013) from Virginia Tech, and a BE in Mechanical Engineering (2009) from Jadavpur University. He is also an alumnus of the NSF I-Corp program for entrepreneurship, and the Creative Destruction Lab of the Rotman School of Business at the University of Toronto.
Biography of Mr. Ty Shattuck
Mr Shattuck is the CEO of McMaster Innovation Park, Canada’s Premier Research Park, where his mission is to foster and accelerate the transformation of brilliant ideas into brilliant and scalable businesses. Prior to joining the MIP team, Ty held various senior leadership positions within the digital media, aerospace, and venture capital industries, including CTO of Eagle Aerospace, President of Aethon Technologies (originally named 6Imaging LLC), CEO of PV Labs, COO of Trivaris Ltd, and Vice President at L3 Technologies – Wescam. As a Professional Engineer, former Adjunct Professor at OCAD University, past Chair of Mohawk College’s Board of Governors, and a former RCAF officer, Ty is well known within the GTHA area for his business acumen and community leadership. In 2010, he was awarded “Engineer of the Year” from The Ontario Society for Professional Engineers. In 2011, as CEO of PV Labs, he led the company toward being named one of “Canada’s Top 200 Fastest Growing Companies” by Profit Magazine, and in 2012 they received an Academy Award under his leadership.
