and events; Abu Dhabi Police, Tawam Hospital, Al
Ain Municipality, Al Ain Special Needs Club, Takatof,
Yas Marina F1, the state visit of H. M. Queen
Elizabeth II, Government Schools, and the UAEU.
Students supported the Japanese earthquake relief,
UAEU Student United Against Cancer for leukemia
research and family support, Date Donation for
the victims of the floods in Pakistan, the inclusion
of students with special needs in the Information
Technology Marathon competition, and other charity
and humanitarian causes during the year.
Internships
During 2010/2011, the iWIL Center released an
updated version of the Internship Online System
covering all functions and procedures performed
by students, faculty, and internship partners. This
together with the launch of the newly branded
website helped visitors to better understand the
internship and graduate placement processes in the
university resulting in a more effective and efficient
use of available resources. In addition a new channel
was added for students and faculty advisors in the
my.uaeu portal.
International internships were arranged for UAEU
students to; the European Aeronautic Defence and
Space Company (EADS) in Germany, and the world-
class Global Foundries chip manufacturing facilities
in Germany and Singapore through ATIC and ADEC.
FOS undergraduate students gained internship
experience in various countries, such as Germany,
Italy, Singapore, Oman, and Bahrain, while the
Department of Physics has an active student
exchange program in high-energy physics with
CERN in Switzerland.
Enhancing Undergraduate Job Placement
The iWIL Center launched its new “Job Navigator�?
to; make recruiting from UAEU as easy and efficient
as possible, solidify partnerships with public and
private organizations, provide students and alumni
with the needed placement services, and support the
Emiratisation efforts of the UAE. The new job posting
tool has increased job placement opportunities for
UAEU graduates and has helped both undergraduate
and graduate students find career opportunities
related to their personal and professional objectives.
In addition, this year the iWIL Centre coordinated;
the National Graduate Development Programs of
Mubadala, the Etihad Airways Recruitment Day, the
AIESEC Career Development Workshop, NAJAH,
TAWDHEEF Recruitment Show, UAE Careers
2011, GETEX, the Al Ain Education & Career Fair,
and established excellent partnerships with major
recruitment organizations in the UAE.
Scholarly Activities
FBE held the first Islamic Marketing Conference,
while FEDU held amongst others a forum on Best
Practices in Special Education, the Annual Language
Forum, and the 5th Students Research Forum. The
FOL conducted a symposium on “Cyber Crimes�?
concerning the prevention of Information Technology
Crimes and the 19th Annual International Conference
on the topic of “Investment Rules under National
Legislations and International Agreements and their
impact on the Economic Development In the United
Arab Emirates�?.
SMART Program
UAEU’s Seminars in Mastering the Arts (SMART)
program continued to be an enormously popular
and successful innovation with this year’s programs
including presentations ranging from Shakespeare
to creative storytelling, Arabic calligraphy, a poetry
workshop, an art installation workshop, fundamentals
of stage production, and a piano concert. This year
saw the 2007 Prince of Poets Karim Matooq and Dr.
Roger Craik visiting the university.
18 Days
The first outdoor production at the new UAEU
campus was held in the outdoor amphitheater by the
female students of the FHSS Fundamentals of Stage
Production class. The combination of group chanting
and individual vocals held the audience spellbound
with the pure hearted winning over evil and where
