Several visits by delegations from a variety of
universities were hosted by FHSS, included one
from Jagiellonian University in Poland, one of
Europe’s oldest universities and the institution where
Copernicus studied.
Al Ruwaad
A biannual UAEU community magazine, Al Ruwaad,
was published and distributed to the universities
stakeholders. The focus of the high quality magazine
is on activities and news of the UAEU with the aim to
improve the marketing and outreach of the university
by connecting with partners and Alumni.
UAE Geographic Society
As the only tertiary institution in the UAE offering
geography degrees, the Geography and Urban
Planning Department of the FHSS has taken a
leading role in the UAE Geographical Society,
underscoring the growing significance of geography
in the UAE.
Media Practitioners
The Mass Communication Department continued to
serve as the home of the annual Al Nawa Awards
Ceremony, an award sponsored by H.H. Sheikh
Nahayan Mubarak Al Nahayan, Minister of Higher
Education and Scientific Research that recognizes
university student media practitioners from
throughout the UAE for outstanding demonstrations
of creativity and talent in seven categories of media
The Psychology Department was actively involved
with a variety of different government organizations,
including Minor Affairs, MOE, and Dar Zayed and
offered a four-month Training Diploma for Alnahda
Women’s Organization as a Professional Family
Counselor. In collaboration with the MOE and ADEC,
the Sociology Department has embarked on a project
to author a new sociology textbook for secondary
Aerospace Engineering
The Faculty of Engineering engaged with Mubadala
Development Company seeking to establish a
B.Sc. and M.Sc. Aerospace Engineering program
at the UAEU in cooperation with the University of
MoU’s were signed between FOE and the Abu Dhabi
Department of Economic Development to cooperate
on the professional registration of Engineers within
the Emirate of Abu Dhabi, and with the Dubai
Ports and Dry Docks to sponsor approximately 500
Diplomate, Water Resources Engineer
The Chair of the Civil and Environmental Engineering
department was recognized by the American
Academy of Water Resources Engineers Board of
Trustees as a Diplomate, Water Resources Engineer
(D.WRE), which is significant as, worldwide, only 600
Water Scientists and Professionals hold this title.
Research Collaboration
FOE continued its collaboration with the Japan
Cooperation Centre Petroleum (JCCP) on
hydrocarbon and environmental research and with
2 British universities under the PMI-2 research
collaboration by the British Council. Also, RTTSRC
established collaboration with the University of
Ferrara, Italy to conduct research in the area of
Traffic and Transportation and is working with other
universities on a proposal for a Center of Excellence
(COE) on Sustainable Urban Freight Systems.
Law Firms
Mutual cooperation between law firms and the
UAEU faculty and law students were agreed to with
Coffey International, Freshfield Bruckhaus Deringer
International, and Bruckhaus Deringer.
Moot Court Competitions
Training session to prepare student teams to take
part in international Vis Moot Court competitions
were held by Pittsburg University USA, Hogan
Lovell's International Abu Dhabi, and White and
Case International, DLA Piper Dubai. A MoU was
signed between FOL and Latham & Watkins, while
strong ties were established with respected national
institutions like the Judicial Department in Abu Dhabi,
the Judicial Department in Dubai, the DIFC, Al-Ain
Municipality, the Ministry of Interior, and the Ministry
of Labor.
Scientific Support
To support UAEU’s role in the community as a
scientific, cultural, and social institution the five
departments of the Faculty of Science were involved
in organizing scientific conferences at both local
and international levels and enhanced the transfer
of knowledge by offering regular consultation with
institutions within the UAE, like theAl Ain Municipality,
Ministry of Interior, and the Ministry of Water and
Environment. The Chemistry Department organized
a “Go Green Day�?, while the Math Department
established the Mathematical Scientific Center. An
MOU was signed between the Biology Department
and the Max-Planck Institute for Marine Microbiology
of Germany.
