Basis of Authority
The United Arab Emirates University was established by the then President of the UAE, the late
Sheikh Zayed Bin Sultan al Nahyan, by virtue of Federal Law 4 of the year 1976. UAEU is a research-
based institution providing research solutions to support the UAE and, through its global partners,
the wider world.
The Chancellor
The Chancellor oversees the University affairs and exercises all the powers stipulated in the
University establishment law, executive by-laws and policies as well as chairs the University Council
and issues its decrees.
University Council
The United Arab Emirates University Council is the governing body responsible for establishing
policies, endorsing plans and setting by-laws to achieve the University’s goals in the academic,
administrative and student related fields.
University Management
The Vice Chancellor is responsible for the management of all University affairs as well as the
overall direction of policy and strategic planning, budget and financial and administrative activities,
external relations, alumni, and services that support the academic mission of UAEU.
The Provost is the Chief Academic Officer responsible for the Colleges, undergraduate studies,
research and graduate studies, and information technlogy.
The Secretary General is responsible for services that support the academic mission of the University
including finance, budget, facilitiesmanagement, human resouces, auxiliary services, and safety.
Colleges and Departments
The Deans are the heads of the academic Colleges, which are groupings of academic disciplines,
through which the academic staff teach at undergraduate and post-graduate levels, and conduct
research and scholarship.
UAEU has nine Colleges through which academic staff conduct their teaching at undergraduate
and postgraduate levels while pursuing research and scholarly investigations. The University
College offers a preparation program that aims to help students make a successful transition from
high school to university study, providing developmental help to students who need additional
instruction in Arabic, English & mathematics.
UAEU Colleges provide comprehensive opportunities for study and careers to more than 13,500
students offering a full range of undergraduate and graduate degree programs. The University
offers 63 Bachelor degrees, 39 Master degrees, and the UAE’s first national University PhD program.
