Four Political Science Students attended the International Summer Program at the University of Vienna,
Strobl, Austria in which they received a Diploma in European Studies and students from the Mass
Communications Department participated in the Arab Youth Forum in Jordan.
Three graduates from the Department of Arabic Language & Literature attended the 2nd International
Conferenceon ‘TeachingArabic toNon-NativeSpeakers’ at YarmoukUniversity, Irbid, Jordan. Additionally
students from the Department of Mass Communications were afforded the opportunity to take part in
the Young Media Leaders (YML) program with the Abu Dhabi Music & Arts Foundation (ADMAF), which
focused on a series of workshops, field trips and training in photo journalism, broadcasting, news
writing and online media. Students from the same Department also attended media courses organized
by Twofour54’s Tadreeb Training Academy.
The Center for Career Planning and Placement has helped place 1,275 students in internships this
past year. The Center also arranged international summer internships for 8 students in Korea, China,
Singapore and USA.
Student Achievements & Awards
The competitive spirit and high levels of students’ abilities has been captured in the many awards
received, which include:
- Two student projects from the College of Science were awarded 2nd Place at Think Science Competi-
tion where 55 competitors from 41 schools and 14 universities in the UAE took part.
- Mr. Mohamed E. Amin, a Masters student in the Petroleum Engineering program, UAEU, won the SPE
Abu Dhabi Section Paper Award for his paper entitled: ‘Optimization of CO2 WAG Processes in a
Selected Carbonate Reservoir- An Experimental Approach’.
- UAEU College of Engineering (COE) Students won the top prize at ‘Alreyada’ (Pioneering in English)
seminar, which was organized by Total company.
- The COE won 4th place for their project titled ‘Novel Glucometer Probe with Voice Output’ in the GCC
Engineering Students Design Competition which took place in the King Saud University.
- UAEU won 1st place among the ten teams from UAE Universities at the Engineering Students Ethics
Competition (ESEC) which was held in Khalifa University.
- The ASCE (American Society of Civil Engineers) International Student Group at the American Uni
versity of Sharjah organized a Concrete Crushing Competition between ten groups of students from 5
universities in the UAE. UAEU won 1st and 2nd place.
- UAEU Electrical Engineering students won 1st place at the ‘8th IEEE Student Day’ competition which
was held in the University of Sharjah in the Common Design Project category, where they had to
build a guided vehicle system. The winning team scored 93% on the overall grading while the second
winning team scored 54%.
