University Council Holds First Meet at UAEU

His Excellency Sheikh Hamdan Bin Mubarak Al Nahyan, Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research,

Chancellor of United Arab Emirates University (UAEU), chaired the first meeting of the University Council for the academic year 2013/2014 on Tuesday the 15th of April at the crescent building at the University, in the presence of H.E. Humaid Mohammad Al Qutami, H.E. Noura Al Kaabi, H.E. Saif Mohamed Al Hajeri, H.E. Abdulla Nasser Bin Al Mansoori, H.E. Essa Abdul Fattah Kazim, Dr.Mohammed Ali Al Sheryani, Dr. Ali Rashid Al Noaimi, Vice Chancellor of UAE University, Dr. Butti Al Muhairi from the College of Law, Dr. Fatma Al Jasmi, from the College of Medicine and Health Sciences, Dr. Asma' Abu Bakr Al Menhali from the College of Science and Dr. Sultan Ahmed Al Suwaidi from the College of Education.

His Excellency commended his Highness Sheikh Khalifa Bin Zayed Al Nahyan for his interest in higher education institutions in general and UAEU in particular. As these are extremely important to him he expressed his sincere thanks and appreciation towards His Highness Sheikh Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President, Prime Minister and ruler of Dubai, for his constant support for the UAE’s first national University. His Excellency also praised the constant care and attention from His Highness General Sheikh Mohamed Bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi, Deputy Supreme Commander of the UAE Armed Forces and Chairman of the Abu Dhabi Education Council. He commented on His Highness’s approval of the university’s leadership and its excellence in higher education and scientific research. His Excellency also expressed his deep thanks to his Excellency Sheikh Nahyan Bin Mubarak Al Nahyan, Minister of Culture, Youth and Community Development, for his sincere efforts and leading role in chairing UAEU’s council the previous years and he thanked all the former members of the board for their efforts and part in the development of the University.

Dr. Ali Rashid Al Noaimi, the Vice Chancellor of UAEU, expressed his thanks and appreciation for the high level of attention paid to the University by the country’s wise leadership which has had a great impact upon the prestigious position that the University occupies, providing it with all the capabilities and necessary resources to ensure it can live up to the higher educational strategic goals set by the wise leadership.

A set of important decisions were made. First, the institutional accreditation of UAEU; the granting of scientific degrees for University graduates in academic year 2012/2013; the adoption of the Chancellor’s Program for Scholarships; approval for the establishment of the Emirates Center for Energy and Environmental Research and the agreement on establishing a new path in constructional planning in the Department of Geography in the College of Humanities and Social Sciences in place of the international and regional path which has been cancelled. In addition to agreeing on the strategic plan for 2014/2016; the adoption of the admission policy for the coming academic year (2014/2015); the appointment of deans and vice deans for some University colleges, a consideration of the fiscal year for 2014, as compared to the final accounts for the fiscal year of 2012 was also undertaken. The University Council also considered an agreement on establishing college councils and the implementation of certain academic and financial policies including the University’s procurement policy
