Mon, 6 June 2022

The Center for Career Placement & Alumni at the United Arab Emirates University (UAEU) recently organized a lecture entitled, ‘Utilize Your Talent in the Private Sector’. This lecture, part of the ABSHER Initiative, targeted university students and was aimed at promoting and raising their awareness of the role of the private sector.
The lecture was presented by Dr. Nasser Al Amri, Chair of the university’s Physical Education Department. He explained that young people represent the energy and drive required to develop the financial and economic resources of the nation. The nation, in return, needs to understand their concerns and aspirations and to prepare them for future challenges. He added that success in the private sector does not necessarily require great talent but does rest upon motivation, determination and realism in order to achieve success and reach goals without undue hesitation.
He further discussed how students could turn their goals into reality. He pinpointed several steps: first you must determine your goal; then determine a deadline for achieving that goal; furthermore you should visualize the achievement of that target. In addition to detailing the most important characteristics of a successful entrepreneur: patience, optimism, persistence, determination, persuasion, a positive outlook, etc. he also stressed the importance of mental regeneration through reading books and periodicals.
Mariam Al Kaabi, Director of the Center for Career Placement and Alumni, thanked Dr. Al Amri for the talk and highlighted that UAEU, in partnership with the ABSHER Initiative, aims to inform students about the private sector and encourage them to work there. She also noted that the ABSHER Initiative allows citizens to gain insights into and learn about the entrepreneurial environment in the UAE, and plays a vital role within the business sector. Additionally, it showcases the wise vision of the UAE leadership in promoting the involvement of citizens in the labor market, and encouraging them to take advantage of the growing opportunities afforded by the UAE economy. Thus citizens can realize family and social stability as well as finding a variety of job opportunities.
130 students (both male and female) came up with a number of proposals. The most important of them were: to encourage students to enter the private sector, to coordinate between institution and to support young people by strengthening funding bodies.
