Mon, 6 June 2022
The Media and Communications Department at the United Arab Emirates University (UAEU) organized a lecture entitled “Your Decision Determines Your Destiny” to raise awareness of Gulf Traffic Week. It was held in the crescent building theater and was attended by academics, administrators and students.
This lecture is part of the university’s attempts to keep abreast of local, regional and international events. Dr. Hasan Al Marzooqi, Chairman of the Department of Sharia and Islamic Studies in the College of Law, gave a presentation on the religious view of traffic safety rules and the requirement to adhere to them in order to save human lives and money. These are Sharia compliant concerns as obeying traffic rules can save not only your own life and well-being but the lives of others too.
Dr. Hasan Al Marzooqi, explained that Islamic Law seeks to preserve lives and money and that anyone who flouts traffic regulations is a sinner before Allah and disobedient to the ruler who decreed these laws.
Dr. Al Marzooqi called on the students and other attendees to abide by the rules of traffic safety. The UAE is working on plans and initiatives to reduce the accident rate and subsequent fatalities, which can only be achieved through public awareness, especially among young people.
Dr. Alia Daifallah, Associate Professor in the College of Law, said that the university's participation in Gulf Traffic Week is a positive and important attempt to raise awareness among students. This is important as the annual traffic statistics shows terrifying and tragic results mostly due to excessive speed and being distracted by mobile phones while driving.
