The College of Law at the United Arab Emirates University organized a seminar on Sunday October 11th, 2015, in the theater of the College of Information Technology. It was on International Humanitarian Law and was presented in the presence of Dr. Mohammed Hassan, Dean of the College of Law and representatives of the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC). Also in attendances were faculty and students. As part of UAEU’s role in disseminating knowledge throughout the community,  students were informed about international law in times of conflict; the differences between  international humanitarian law and human rights law; how to identify international humanitarian law, its sources, inception and scope of application. They also informed the attendees about the International Red Cross and Red Crescent movement.

Ms. Monia Ammar Al Fiqi of the ICRC expressed her thanks to the university for her reception and opening the door to dialogue with the International Committee of the Red Cross. This seminar identifies international human rights law and she also spoke about the importance of familiarizing students with these laws and their effectiveness, especially in the midst of conflict and war in the Arab region.

Ms. Ghada Al Shawwa, a legal consultant from the ICRC, gave a presentation on the International Red Cross and Red Crescent movement, explaining that the committee helps and protects victims of conflicts and is the guardian of international humanitarian law. It has 60 missions covering 80 countries and one of its most important activities is spreading and identifying international humanitarian law.

The Dean of the College of Law honored the delegation for their efforts in introducing law students to the most important international humanitarian laws.
