United Arab Emirates University students learn about ‘Shawer’, the ‘Seek our Advice, We Listen to You’ program

In cooperation with the Family Development Foundation

The Student Counseling Center at the United Arab Emirates University organized a lecture to introduce ‘Shawer’, the ‘Seek our Advice, We Listen to You’ program in collaboration with the Family Development Foundation on Monday 26^th October, 2015.

The aim of the lecture, held in the Crescent building on campus, was to promote family awareness and support a stable family life. It involves a group of community members who deal with family problems in a positive manner and provide individual and group counseling in social, psychological and educational areas. They do so in a systematic way according to the needs of community members.

Professor Wafa Al Ali,  Head of Family Counseling Department at the Family Development Foundation, talked about the content of the program, the centers that provide it, methods of communication and how to book appointments. She discussed the program content covering community issues such as legal and family advice, or dealing with mental health, professional development and all aspects of the family.

Professor Saddam Al Krasneh, a psychological advisor at the foundation said that it was important to promote the values of cohesion, coherence and communication between family members through various means and channels that all contribute to supporting a healthy family life based on respect, complementary roles and family stability. The ‘Shawer’ – ‘Seek Our Advice, We Listen to You’ program plays an important role in affirming concepts of belonging and national identity within the family.
