Dr. Murad pointed out the effectiveness of the summer training program in providing students with research skills, and the importance of student exchange with universities in other countries. He also revealed a series of research grants to motivate students to conduct scientific research.

He said that, “Our goal is to conduct research both within and out with the UAE to support the university’s goals in terms of scientific research and innovation in areas of national and regional importance. We also seek to encourage students to acquire research skills and to hone their skills”. At the end of his speech, he thanked UAEU for its support. He also thanked the sponsors of the various summer programs which included ‘Total and the ‘Abu Dhabi Fund for Development.’

The students gave a presentation on their scientific experiences in various host countries and institutions: Japan; the Geology Laboratories of the University of Hong Kong and the European Centre for Nuclear Research in Switzerland.

The SURE exhibition included ten research projects in a variety of scientific disciplines. These included toxic gas sensors from the Department of Physics; thermal and electrical materials; the use of nanoparticles and the study the Martian atmosphere. The Geology Department’s research was based on the use of satellite imaging to count palm trees in Abu Dhabi.

A workshop on digital geology was also held in cooperation with the European Association of Geoscientists and Engineers. It was presented by Professor Michael Boberlter, an honorary professor in petroleum geology from the University of Tübingen in Germany and a representative of Shell. Dr. Ahmed Murad, dean of the college, and Dr. Khalid Al Bloushi, Head of the Department of Geology, honored Professor Boberlter at the end of the workshop.

The workshop was on the development of oil and major oil companies’ investment in digital geology to aid effective decision-making.
