As part of the first UAE-Japan Forum

The Emirates Digestive Diseases Group in the College of Medicine and Health Sciences at the United Arab Emirates University, the Japanese National Cancer Center Hospital, Tawam Hospital and the Al Ain branch of the Abu Dhabi Health Services Company (SEHA) organized a workshop and presentation on the removal of stomach and colon tumors by smart endoscopy on the 28th and 29th of February, 2016 as part of the first Emirates-Japanese Endoscopy Forum held with the support of the Japanese Government.

Dr. Ali Al Fazari, president of the Emirates Digestive Diseases Group and Chairman of the forum said that, “the UAE is seeking to benefit from international expertise and Japan is a leader in gastrointestinal endoscopy.” He added that this two day forum will look at the most modern and innovative diagnoses and treatments of digestive tract diseases. The forum provides an opportunity to exchange skills and share experiences for physicians dealing with gastrointestinal diseases. They can develop their skills through exchanging visits between doctors from both the UAE and Japan. The forum is supported and coordinated by the College of Medicine at UAEU, Tawam Hospital, the Japanese National Cancer Centre Hospital and the Japanese Government.

Dr. Mazen Al Jaberi, deputy chairman of the organizing committee will introduce Dr. Yutaka Saito, director of the Endoscopy Department at the Japanese National Cancer Center Hospital who will present the latest research on the detection and removal of malignant tumors in their early stages from the stomach, colon and small intestine. These workshops by the Japanese team will be held on Sunday 28th of February 2016 at the Intercontinental Festival City Hotel in Dubai.

Dr. Mazen Taha, head of the Endoscopy Department at Tawam Hospital and vice chairman of the organizing committee, pointed out that Tawam Hospital is a major hospital specializing in the treatment of diseases of the digestive tract. They are preparing a live broadcast from the endoscopy theater to the main hall where other doctors will be able to see the rare and complex endoscope operation carried out by the Japanese experts on Monday 29th of February 2016.

The Emirates Digestive Diseases Group has already organized Emirates Digestive Diseases Week (EDDW) back in December 2015. This was under the patronage of Her Highness Sheikha Fatima Bint Mubarak, the chairwoman of the Family Development Foundation, president of the General Women’s Union and chairwoman of the Motherhood and Childhood Supreme Council. That conference hosted many international experts and saw the launch of the Sheikha Fatima Bint Mubarak Award for Medical Excellence in Gastroenterology.
