Re-accreditation for UAEU’s College of Engineering
Mon, 6 June 2022
Following months of preparation, assessments and comprehensive reviews, the hard work has paid off for the College of Engineering of the United Arab Emirates University (UAEU), whose programs have received re-accreditation from the Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology (ABET). UAEU’s current accreditation will last for six years until 2022.
As the first university in the United Arab Emirates to receive ABET accreditation back in 1998, Dr. Sabah Alkass, Dean of College of Engineering, says the latest accreditation, which applies to the college’s undergraduate programs, is further proof that UAEU continues to deliver quality education that students, parents and future employers can trust. Furthermore, he says the re-accreditation strengthens the College’s efforts to attract more national and international students to study at UAEU.
“The College of Engineering is keen to provide the best educational programs for its students at an international standard,” says Dr AlKass. “Therefore, this internationally recognized accreditation validates the programs offered by the College, and facilitates the possibility of the College accepting international students from other parts of the world.”
With the College of Engineering’s programs accredited for a full six-year term here’s six accreditation-worthy reasons why prospective international students should consider studying engineering at UAEU.
1. Continuous Innovation
The College of Engineering is currently working on a new “Aero Space Program”, part of the College’s commitment to innovation and the practical application of knowledge. This will be in line with the UAEU strategic plan and the latest announcement of the newly launched National Space Science and Technology Center, which will focus on space communications, space sciences, space technology and remote sensing and navigation systems.
2. This Is Real Engineering
That’s right, you actually feel like an engineer when studying here. From mechatronics and robotics to nanotechnology and transportation, the engineering community at UAEU is focused on solving real-world problems through innovation and knowledge transfer.
3. First-Rate Facilities
Constant investment ensures that the UAEU’s facilities are world-class. In the College of Engineering you will find, among other things, a state-of-the-art, AED 5 million earthquake simulator that simulates the effects of strong earthquakes on structures, as well as an integrated artificial sky and heliodon for conducting daylight studies.
4. Beyond The Classroom
In addition, the college also manages three research centres that are home to some of the most innovative researchers and research projects in the country, including the Road, Transportation and Traffic Safety Research Center (RTTSRC); Building and Construction Research Center (BCRC); and Emirates Energy and Environment Research Center (EEERC).
5. Cool Internships Are Par For The Course
Withseven programs available, including Architectural Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Petroleum Engineering, Civil Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical and Communication Engineering, the UAEU has partnered with some of the Emirates’ – and the world’s – leading companies to give students professional experience they cannot obtain in an academic environment.
6. Proof Is In The Pudding
Some of the world’s most notable patents have been secured by UAEU for their engineering students, researchers and faculty members.
