Uniied Arab Emirates University organizes a lecture on the importance of the ozone layer

For the International Day for the Preservation of the Ozone Layer

The Media and Communications Department organized a lecture for school students on Tuesday September 20th, 2016, on the "Importance of the ozone layer". This was attended by Dr. Ahmed Murad, Dean of the College of Science, faculty members, and students from Al Zaydia Secondary School and Al Nashaa Al Saleh Private School.

Dr. Murad said in his welcoming speech to the students: "this lecture is part of the University’s contribution to educating the society about the importance of the world’s ozone layer. The university seeks to raise environmental awareness within the community, by holding a series of lectures on this topic”. He further added "the ozone layer is a serious issue affecting the world. Therefore, international organizations have made 16th September a day to mark its global importance.”

The lecture was presented by Dr. Mahmoud Abu Saima from the Department of Geology in the College of Science. He gave a scientific explanation of the ozone layer, how international efforts are needed to protect it, and the role the UAE has in its preservation.
