The United Arab Emirates Team participated in the Asian Universities Alliance Youth Forum (AUAYF), won the first award in the student competition, category sustainable development. The forum held in November 2017 in Bangkok, was themed ‘Empowering Youth towards Sustainability: People, Planet and Prosperity’.
Fatima Al Saedi, a student from the UAEU College of IT, won the first award at the continental level, for participating with her project entitled ‘China Grow’. The project is about an app that helps in facilitating the communication between the Chinese rural and city people. Farmers in the rural areas can showcase their products on the App so that individuals living in cities can purchase agricultural products in a convenient and easy way.
“I designed the App and set the standard model for it, which enhanced my opportunity to win the award. My participation in the forum has helped me to gain experience, exposure to various Asian cultures and exchange thoughts with the participating team on enhancing sustainability through prosperity”, said Al Saedi.
Whilst Engineering student, Shamma Alkaabi’s presentation was about a project named ‘Mangroovy’, which is a place in Sri Lanka and Indonesia featuring Mangrove trees. The projects aims to achieve sustainability by launching a website to attract investors to this distinguished place. The website included innovative ideas and designs to enhance the environmental life-cycle.
The IT student and the innovation ambassador in South Korea, Salma Aldhanhani’s project was called ‘Innovative Farm’ which was an app, that will act as a communication platform between farms’ owners and individuals and corporate consumers for the usage of recycled farm waste
