The College of Humanities and Social Sciences at the United Arab Emirates University (UAEU) approved a Ph.D dissertation on, ‘Newsroom Convergence in Print and Online Media: A Study of the Gulf News and Al Ittihad in the UAE,’ by Ahmed Al Mansoori a postgraduate student in the Department of Mass Communications.
The study aimed to investigate the three types of newsroom convergence: coordination, across media and full integration. The study developed an assessment model for ten types of newsroom convergence based on earlier investigations.
The candidate pointed out that the media industry in the UAE, as elsewhere in the world, is experiencing significant changes due to information and communication technologies. Newsrooms especially are centers for change, forcing media owners and managers to recognize that a convergence of print and online media is inevitable if they wish to continue with their newspapers.
Ahmed Al Mansoori has been working in the UAE media since 2004 and has previously won the Arab Press Award (2007) for ‘Best Feature Article’. He also received the Trim Imran Award in 2013 in the ‘Press Article’ category.
