As part of the Year of Giving (2017) the United Arab Emirates University (UAEU) launched the ‘Fasilat Al Kheir’ initiative on Thursday, 25th May. The launch took place in the Business Center in the Crescent Building at UAEU, in the presence of Dr. Ali Al Kaabi, Deputy Vice Chancellor for Student Affairs and Enrollment and leader of the Year of Giving Team. Also present were Professor Ahmed Murad, Dean of the College of Science and deputy leader of the team; Professor Bhanu Chowdhary, Dean of the College of Food and Agriculture; Obaid Al Buloushi, Head of the Donations Department; Ahmed Al Halami, an official from the Emirates Red Crescent in Al Ain and other members of the team.
Dr. Al Kaabi said that, “This initiative is in line with government directives and fosters a culture of giving among the university community in an effort to better serve society. UAEU has planned many activities to contribute to the national leadership’s Year of Giving objectives.”
Mr. Al Buloush expressed his appreciation towards the UAEU administration, one of the Emirates Red Crescent’s strategic partners, for their support. He also stressed the significance of keeping up communications between the Emirates Red Crescent and UAEU in order encourage both local and international voluntary work that reflects the humanitarian vision of UAEU.
This initiative will donate two and a half tons of dates from the college’s farms to the Red Crescent to be distributed in Ramadan and throughout the Year of Giving. The length of the project will be from 25th May through to October.
