Professor Ali Al Nuaimi, Chancellor of the United Arab Emirates University (UAEU), received Dr. Amr Ezzat Salama, Secretary General Elect of the Association of Arab Universities, in his office at the United Arab Emirates University to congratulate him on his election as Secretary General of the AAU. Dr. Al Nuaimi praised the new Secretary General’s experience in the field of higher education. This vast experience will prove useful in the further development of the AAU’s endeavors in both education and research. Dr. Salama expressed his gratitude to Dr. Al Nuaimi and UAEU for their hospitality in arranging the 50th conference.

At the conclusion of the AAU’s Golden Jubilee Conference, Professor Al Baili, Vice Chancellor of UAEU and Chair of the AAU Conference, stressed that, “Arab Universities should keep pace with global higher education, research and development, the Fourth Industrial Revolution and the requirements of the future job market. Universities need to embrace innovative research, enhance joint research and act upon the decisions and recommendations of the current AAU conference.”

Dr. Salama, a former Minister of Education and now the Chancellor of the American University in Cairo, is the new Secretary General of the AAU, while Professor Khumaisi Hamidi, Chancellor of Algeria University 2, and Professor Abdul Rahim Al Hunaiti, an AAU Quality Consultant will become under-secretaries for three years.

The AAU conference closed on Tuesday at UAEU with the Chancellors and Vice Chancellors of the Arab u niversities in attendance. A number of recommendations were made by the Secretary General and the two new under-secretaries which were all formally adopted.
