UAEU Emirati Women’s Day: acknowledging innovators and pioneers

In recognition of Emirati women’s efforts in achieving ample accomplishments in all areas of UAE sustainable development, United Arab Emirates University (UAEU) celebrated the Emirati Women’s Day through a number of events.
The UAEU Innovation Support Team held a session titled ‘Women in the Course of Zayed: Emirati Women’s Role in Supporting UAE Innovation-led Economy’ presented by Dr. Khaula Al Kaabi, Chief Innovation Officer. The session addressed the definition of innovation and ways of investing in intellectual abilities to discover new ideas of great benefit to the society. Dr. Al Kaabi highlighted a number of leading Emirati female innovators in various fields, most notably the inspirational figure, Her Highness Sheikha Fatima bint Mubarak, Chairwoman of the General Women's Union, Supreme Chairwoman of the Family Development Foundation and President of the Supreme Council for Motherhood and Childhood.
Dr. AlKaabi explained the Emirati women’s role in achieving leadership in the field of science and innovation. She pointed out some innovator role models including the 16-year-old inventor Fatima Al Kaabi, the world’s best country representative, owning an innovation record of 10 inventions in the field of environment and sustainability. She also referred to the inventors Shamma Salem and Fatima Al-Kaabi in the field of artificial intelligence, who invented a robot to help autistic children, Alia Mansouri’s experiment on genes in space, and Magda Al-Azazi, the initiator of the first UAE locally made ‘Al Reem’ car.
The College of Science, in collaboration with the UAE National Committee of the International Hydrological Program, organized a seminar where participants discussed ‘the Emirati Women's Role in Achieving Water Resources Sustainability’ and the UAE’s water situation.
