The United Arab Emirates University (UAEU) has signed a Memorandum of Understanding with the Korea Institute of Science and Technology (KIST) on 26th March 2018 at the university campus in Al-Ain. The MoU was signed by Professor Ghaleb Al Hadrami, Deputy Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs, UAEU, and Dr. Seok-Jin Yoon, Vice president, KIST. Also in attendance were Dr. Dong-Ju Moon, principal research scientist, KIST and a professor of KIST-School in UST, and Professor Sabah Alkass, Dean of the College of Engineering, UAEU.
The MoU aims to enhance collaboration between the two parties with regard to knowledge and scientific research and explore opportunities of developing academic and research programs. It also aims to boost student exchange for internship purposes and conducting MA theses and PhD dissertations.
Professor Al Hadrami explained that the MoU seeks to look into ways of collaboration with KIST in academic and research areas and achieve joint goals through working together as part of the common vision that focuses on using innovative, state-of-art technologies. It is also in line with the UAEU’s strategic strategy that aims to prepare a national, qualified cadre capable of facing future challenges in the fourth industrial revolution era and enhance building a sustainable, knowledge-based economy as per the directives of the UAE’s wise leadership expressed in the vision of 2071.
The agreement features collaboration in the areas of clean energy, environmental science, chemical engineering, medical studies and research on brain, engineering of sustainable green cities, nanoscience, robotics, and artificial intelligence as well as other fields and their applications.
