The United Arab Emirates University (UAEU) jumped 7 places to claim a spot in the top 50 in the prestigious Times Higher Education (THE) Emerging Economies University Rankings 2018 where it is now ranked 50.
“UAEU’s steady progress up the rankings ladder has ensured that we are in the elite company of the best universities in the world. The drive has come from an upsurge in research as a result of inculcating a spirit of discovery and entrepreneurship,” said Prof. Mohamed Albaili, Vice Chancellor of UAEU.
UAEU is one of the top 378 institutions in the 42 countries included in the analysis. The ranking uses the same 13 rigorous performance indicators as the THE World University Rankings, examining each university’s strengths against all of its core missions – teaching, research, knowledge transfer and international outlook. But the methodology has been carefully recalibrated to better reflect the characteristics and development priorities of universities in emerging economies. More weight is given, for example, to a university’s industry links and international outlook.
The University continues in its pursuit of excellence to be among the world’s best 200 universities and the university of choice for undergraduate and graduate education, and research, training and lifelong learning.
Further, as the flagship national higher education institution of UAE, the University plans to be the national research hub in areas of strategic importance and to become the primary destination for collaboration for governmental and non-governmental agencies, organizations, industry, and international agencies.
