United Arab Emirates University Board of Trustees Convenes its 3rd Meeting for the 2024/2025 Academic Year

Under the Chairmanship of His Excellency Zaki Anwar Nusseibeh, Cultural Advisor to His Highness the President of the UAE and Chancellor of the United Arab Emirates University (UAEU), the Board of Trustees convened today at UAEU’s Al Ain campus for its third meeting of the 2024/2025 academic year.

Commencing the proceedings, His Excellency Zaki Nusseibeh addressed the Board’s distinguished members and external advisors, expressing his sincere gratitude for their unwavering dedication to advancing UAEU’s objectives. He reaffirmed the Board’s resolve that UAEU will achieve its ambitious goal of a listing among the world’s top 200 universities by 2026.

The meeting’s agenda focused on the following strategic priorities:

  • Academic Programs: Ensuring outcomes are aligned to national and global priorities.
  • Research Quality and Productivity: Developing infrastructure and international collaborations to enhance the impact of UAEU’s research.
  • Faculty Recruitment and Retention: Attracting and retaining top academic talent.
  • Rankings and Employability: Strengthening global reputation and improving graduate outcomes.

The Board reached key decisions based on recommendations of its Committees:

  1. Academic and Student Affairs Committee:
  • To foster innovation and academic excellence, approval of the merger of the Departments of Curriculum and Instruction and Foundations of Education within the College of Education, forming the Department of Learning and Educational Leadership.
  • Endorsement of the 2025-2026 Academic Calendar.
  1. Finance, Administration, and Investment Committee:
  • To ensure sound financial management and operational sustainability, adoption of a policy framework for managing UAEU’s liquidity.
  1. Audit and Risk Committee:
  • To reinforce the university’s governance and accountability framework, approval of updates to the Internal Audit Charter.

In his closing remarks, His Excellency Zaki Nusseibeh commended the Board members for their valuable contributions and steadfast commitment to UAEU’s mission. He underscored the importance of their strategic oversight of UAEU’s work towards academic excellence, impactful research, and societal progress aligned to the UAE’s national priorities.

The Board reaffirmed its dedication to steering UAEU toward its ambitious goals, so that UAEU would continue in its role as a leader in higher education and a catalyst for innovation and development in the region.
